According to The Hollywood Reporter, Zachary Levi has been tapped to play the title character in Warner Bros. and DC Films’ Shazam! movie.

Levi, an alumni of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, having played one of the Warriors Three (Fandral) in Thor: The Dark World and Thor: Ragnarok, also starred on the NBC’s one-hour comedy Chuck, in addition to playing major roles in Tangled and Heroes Reborn. He will play the adult transformation of the young Billy Batson who, uttering the word “Shazam!,” becomes Earth’s mightiest mortal.
The news comes only minutes after director David F. Sandberg posted to Instagram, seemingly teasing an eminent announcement.

Set to shoot from February until May in Toronto, Ontario, the DCEU film was thought to star Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson as longtime Shazam! foe Black Adam, until it was revealed the character would instead feature in his own solo film. The villain of WB’s Shazam! movie hasn’t been revealed.
The next DC film to go into production, Shazam!, directed by Lights Out and Annabelle: Creation’s David F. Sandberg, hits theaters in April, 2019.
