Since debuting in 2015 Black Panther, writer Ta-Nehisi Coates has made efforts to mend the relationship between the title character and the X-Man Storm after their marriage ended. She’s appeared in Black Panther a recurring character and ally, and the two worked together in the recently concluded Black Panther & the Crew. But now it appears that Coates, an acclaimed author and journalist, may be working on an actual Storm comic.

While at New York Comic Con this weekend, Coates tweeted an image of a commission of the X-Man drawn by Jen Bartel, who’s done work for Marvel Comics, including a recent cover for America. In the accompanying text, Coates wrote he “got to talk collaboration” the artist, and ended with “stay tune,” which suggests more details are forthcoming.

That would line up with what Marvel Editor-in-Chief Axel Alonso alluded to Friday during a Q&A. “Yeah,” he replied when asked about the possibility of a Storm solo comic. “Depends on our schedules, let’s put it that way … we have specific interest.” When pressed, Alonso admitted that, “Yeah,” such a comic is happening.
Storm received her first (and currently only) solo comic in 2014, courtesy of Greg Pak and multiple artists. The series was part of the Marvel NOW! initiative, but ended after just 11 issues.
