Doctor Strange 2’s Elizabeth Olsen Addresses Rumors About Her MCU Future

Despite the character’s apparent death in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, Elizabeth Olsen does not think Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch’s time in the Marvel Cinematic Universe is over just yet.

In an interview with Collider, Olsen was asked if she knew Multiverse of Madness might be her final appearance as Wanda. She was also asked about a rumor that she had recently extended her contract with Marvel Studios. “I sign extensions every time they want me to do a movie,” Olsen replied. “I just signed a very short one at the beginning, so everything’s constantly just, it’s always adjusting for me.”

That being said, Olsen agrees that Wanda is most likely not going anywhere, given her popularity among fans. “No. I don’t think of this either as the end,” she said. “I don’t know in what capacity I’ll be back. I don’t know how to do it without, I don’t want spoilers.”

In Multiverse of Madness, Wanda — a former Avenger — becomes an adversary to one-time teammate Doctor Strange. Following the events of WandaVision, the newly-christened Scarlet Witch immerses herself in Darkhold, the book of the damned, to find a way to reunite with her ostensibly imaginary children, Billy and Tommy. In the process, she loses her morality and becomes overly obsessive. Once she learns of the multiversal traveler America Chavez, she goes after her, with the goal of harnessing her power and moving to a universe where her sons exist.

Eventually, after leaving much death and destruction in her wake, Wanda realizes how evil she’s become and decides to destroy the last vestiges of the Darkhold, seemingly killing herself in the process. However, her body is never shown, implying that she could still be out there. “She can never go away, I don’t think,” Olsen said in another interview, implying Wanda’s potential return. “Especially with the multiverse. But I don’t know. I think she’s aware of what she’s done, but no — I don’t think she’s gone.”

Decide for yourself what to make of Wanda’s fate. Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is playing in theaters now.
