Netflix has revealed an official teaser trailer and release date for Money Heist: Korea – Joint Economic Area, its upcoming South Korean drama that serves as a remake of the hit Spanish crime series Money Heist.
Money Heist: Korea is slated to premiere its 12 episodes on Netflix on Friday, June 24. The teaser itself offers a brief look at the crime drama’s leading gang, who wear white masks, with all but one member also sporting red jumpsuits.
“A robber who steals petty cash either gets killed after being chased or ends up in jail,” a narrating voice says (translated from Korean). “But a robber who steals at a massive scale can change the world and even become a hero. Of all the money heists, we’ll pull off the biggest one yet. The public will watch this greatest show on earth live. And they will root for us.”
Created by Álex Pina, Money Heist (originally titled La casa de papel) premiered on television in Spain in 2017, airing its two-part debut season on the channel Antena 3. Later that same year, Netflix acquired the global streaming rights to the series. In 2018, the streaming giant renewed Money Heist for Part 3, which ultimately premiered in 2019. A fourth part later hit Netflix in 2020, followed by the show’s fifth and final part in 2021.
In November 2020, Netflix announced it was developing a South Korean adaptation of Money Heist, titled Money Heist: Korea – Joint Economic Area. The series stars Yoo Ji-tae, Jeon Jong-seo, Park Hae-soo, Lee Won-jong, Kim Ji-hoon, Jang Yoon-ju, Lee Hyun-woo, Kim Ji-hun, Lee Kyu-ho, Kim Yun-jin, Kim Sung-oh, Park Myung-hoon, Lee Joo-bin, Lim Ji-yeon, Lim Hyeong-guk and Lee Si-woo. Netflix describes Money Heist: Korea as a “bold new vision of the ultimate heist.”
In addition to Money Heist: Korea, a spinoff of the original Money Heist series titled Berlin is also in the works at Netflix. The spinoff focuses on the character Berlin, with Money Heist alum Pedro Alonso reprising the role. (The aforementioned Hae-soo, known for his role as Cho Sang-woo in Netflix’s Squid Game, plays Berlin in Money Heist: Korea).
