Supernatural’s Jensen Ackles Wants to Be the Next Live-Action Batman

Supernatural‘s Jensen Ackles has thrown his hat in the ring to portray the next live-action Bruce Wayne/Batman.

While appearing at Creation Entertainment’s Supernatural Convention in New Jersey, Ackles was asked who he would like to play in the Batman universe, especially since his former co-star, Misha Collins, will be portraying a villain in The CW’s upcoming Gotham Knights. “Batman,” Ackles said. “Let’s be clear about that. I have gotten to do the voice, why not get to play the Bat? Maybe someone at Gotham Knights can put in a good word for me if that role ever comes up.”

Ackles previously voiced the Caped Crusader in Warner Bros.’s animated films, Batman: The Long Halloween, Part One and Part Two, which were both released in 2021. As for a live-action appearance, it might be unlikely that Ackles appears in Gotham Knights, as the series is said to take place after the death of Batman. However, Collins is set to appear the CW show as the Batman villain Harvey Dent/Two-Face.

“If [the Gotham Knights pilot] gets picked up and turned into a series, which would be really cool, my character will be Harvey Dent for the whole first year,” Collins said of his role in a previous interview. “So I have a nice long stretch of not being two-faced. And then I become Two-Face! Yeah, I’m looking forward to it and I’ll be the old person on the show!” Gotham Knights does not yet have a release date.

While a live-action Batman role isn’t happening yet, Ackles will play another superhero in Season 3 of Prime Video’s The Boys. Both The Boys and Supernatural, in which Ackles starred as Dean Winchester for 15 seasons, were created by Eric Kripke who served as showrunner for the first five seasons. Prior to Supernatural‘s series finale, it was announced in August 2020 that Ackles would join the cast of The Boys as Soldier Boy, the first superhero manufactured by Vaught Industries in World War II, described by Kripke as “Homelander before Homelander.”

“When I was a child, I had a crazy, impossible dream — to provide Jensen Ackles with gainful employment,” said Kripke. “I’m happy to say that dream has come true. Jensen is an amazing actor, an even better person, smells like warm chocolate chip cookies, and I consider him a brother. As Soldier Boy, the very first Superhero, he’ll bring so much humor, pathos, and danger to the role. I can’t wait to be on set with him again, and bring a bit of Supernatural to The Boys.”

Ackles is also producing a Supernatural prequel series titled The Winchesters and will reprise his role as Dean as the series’ narrator. Written by Robbie Thompson, who served as a producer and writer for Supernatural, The Winchesters does not yet have a release date.
