Sideshow and Threezero partner for a line of Transformers MDLX collectible figures, starting with Bumblebee, which is currently available to purchase.
Sideshow and toy developer Threezero released a highly-detailed Bumblebee MDLX collectible figure as part of a new line of Transformers collectibles.
Available on Sideshow, Threezero’s Bumblebee MDLX figure is now available to purchase for $60 USD and is the debut figure in the company’s Transformers MDLX line. MDLX is a new series of small-scale articulated figures. Designed by Threezero’s art director Kelvin Sau, the Transformers line is based on the 1980s toy line and cartoon and each figure features a die-cast zinc aesthetic, a plastic-frame system to ensure durability and playability, and is finished with highly detailed craftsmanship.
The Bumblebee MDLX Collectible Figure is officially licensed by Hasbro and stands at approximately five inches (12.7 centimeters) tall. It also consists of zinc alloy and metal parts and features 36 points of articulation. The box holds a variety of accessories, including one laser blaster, both standard and masked heads and three pairs of interchangeable hands, which consist of relaxed hands, a pair of fists and a pair of posed hands. Bumblebee was first announced by Threezero in August 2021 and the second figure in the line, the Optimus Prime MDLX figure, was announced in October 2021 and is available to purchase for $80 USD.
Bumblebee will appear in Paramount’s Transformers: Rise of the Beasts, the seventh installment in the Transformers film franchise. Rise of the Beasts, which is set for a 2023 release, will serve as a follow-up to the 2018 Bumblebee movie, but takes place before the Michael Bay films. Where Bumblebee took place in the 1980s, Transformers 7 will jump forward to New York City in 1994. In a previous interview, Rise of the Beasts director Steven Caple Jr. discussed how the upcoming Transformers film will pay homage to ’90s action movies.
“As a fan and watching all the Transformers films, and then stepping into Bumblebee, I love the way he went back into ’87,” Caple Jr. said. “Again, it adds again to the nostalgia and something that people remember or connect to. So I was curious, when I met Lorenzo [di Bonaventura] and the team, I was like, where are we picking this thing up from? He was like 1994, and I was just like, that’s a great era. You know what I mean? It has a lot of texture. It’s rich, its texture is also vibrant culturally. It has classic music and there’s a certain energy to the ’90s that I’m looking forward to capturing.”
Transformers: Rise of the Beasts stars Anthony Ramos, Dominique Fishback, Peter Cullen and Ron Perlman and is set for a June 2023 release.
