Lara Croft is back!
The heavily anticipated first trailer for MGM’s Tomb Raider reboot has finally arrived, offering fans of the franchise their first extended look at Alicia Vikander as the iconic adventurer. Currently, the trailer is only available via co-star Daniel Wu’s Instagram account, but CBR will update this story as soon as a widescreen, high-resolution version is available. This version is also only a minute long (the maximum length of Instagram videos), so the official trailer is likely longer.
Eschewing the continuity of the previous Tomb Raider movie franchise, which saw Angelina Jolie in the title role, the new film is heavily influenced by another recent reboot. Vikander’s Croft, and her story, is based on video game developer Crystal Dynamics’ revamp of the franchise, which began with Tomb Raider in 2013 and was followed up by Rise of the Tomb Raider in 2015. This version of Lara Croft is younger, and far less experienced than Jolie’s take on the character when she brought the video game character to life for the first time in 2001.

The trailer comes hot on the heels of the film’s first poster, which finds Vikander’s Lara Croft wielding a climbing axe, a typically benign tool that will most likely double as a weapon at come point in the upcoming movie.
Directed by Roar Uthaug (The Wave), Tomb Raider stars Alicia Vikander as Lara Croft, Dominic West as Lord Richard Croft, Walton Goggins as Father Mathias Vogel and Daniel Wu as Lu Ren. The reboot hits theaters March 16, 2018.
