Miles Morales First Appearance Reprint Includes a Ryan Reynolds Green Lantern Ad

Marvel Comics’ reprint of 2011’s Ultimate Fallout #4 — the first appearance of Miles Morales — even includes a Ryan Reynolds Green Lantern ad.

Marvel Comics released a reprint of 2011’s Ultimate Fallout #4, which marked the first appearance of the Miles Morales incarnation of Spider-Man. The reprint is so authentic, it even features all of the original ads — including one for the Ryan Reynolds-starring Green Lantern.

Aside from the UPC code, the reprint is nearly indistinguishable from the original. In addition to the Green Lantern “Got Milk?” ad, there are also ads for sleepwear inspired by Marvel Studios’ Captain America: The First Avenger and Thor, as well as Rob Rodi and Pasqual Ferry’s Journey Into Mystery #626.1.

Written by Brian Michael Bendis, Jonathan Hickman and Nick Spencer with art by Sara Pichelli, Salvador Larroca and Clayton Crain, colors by Justin Ponsor, Frank D’Armata and Crain and letters by Cory Petit and Clayton Cowles, Ultimate Fallout #4 featured not only the first appearance of Miles but also The Maker, both of whom eventually made the jump from the Ultimate Universe (Earth-1610) the the main Marvel Universe (Earth-616). The issue —  “Spider-Man No More (Part IV)” — saw Miles take up the mantle of Spider-Man after the death of Peter Parker, much to the chagrin of those still mourning the original web-slinger.

In the time since this issue’s release, Miles has become one of the most popular teenage heroes in the Marvel Universe, transcending comics into mediums such as animation (Ultimate Spider-Man, Marvel Super Hero Adventures, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse) and video games (Marvel’s Avengers Alliance 1, 2 and 3, Lego Marvel’s Avengers, Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales). The character was even alluded to in Spider-Man: Homecoming when Aaron Davis mentioned he had a young nephew in New York City.

As for the aforementioned Green Lantern, that movie would go on to bomb at the box office in 2011, grossing just $219.85 million worldwide on a $200 million budget. The film is so notorious that even those associated with it have routinely expressed their regrets. Reynolds has made it the butt of numerous jokes in such movies as Deadpool and Deadpool 2, and director Martin Campbell recently admitted that “The film did not work, really. That’s the point, and I’m partly responsible for that. I shouldn’t have done it.”
