TOM Weekly Figure Roundup: May 30, 2021 to June 5, 2021

Hello there, June! Well, that was a quick five months. Let’s not dwell on that, though…!

A while ago we mentioned tsuyu (梅雨), or the rainy season, creeping up on us with its shikke (湿気), meaning humidity. But you know what? There are some great things about summer over here, too! For one thing, it’s always nice to see the ajisai (紫陽花), or hydrangeas, steadily blooming in shades of blue, pink, white, and so on. When you think of Japanese flowers, sakura blossoms probably spring to mind, but when it comes to the rainy season, it’s definitely ajisai’s time to shine. You might have even seen them featured in anime as a way of pointing out to the audience that it’s that time of year, in the same way bright red leaves everywhere obviously means it’s autumn.
