Daredevil #28 just proved that despite his past as Kingpin, Wilson Fisk may have finally found the true way to redeem himself and save Hell’s Kitchen.

In the world of Daredevil, Wilson Fisk has always been the nastiest villain around. However, he’s transcended his gangster ways in recent years, moving from a street-level tyrant with gun-toting thugs and goons to playing politics against the wealthy and elite.
As the mayor of New York City, Fisk is cutting sneaky deals to benefit himself and his former associates, but as Daredevil #28 hints, he could genuinely want to find redemption by saving both the city and himself.
Fisk might have retired the Kingpin persona, but he knows that crime will always exist. That’s why, even though he’s gone clean, he wants to curb it by propping Izzy Libris up as the new Kingpin. Fisk doesn’t care if he has to jail the Owl or batter Hammerhead; there must be order because ultimately, the city benefits. However, Fisk’s recent ordeals have him wanting to be a better leader.
When the Stromwyns tried to raze Hell’s Kitchen as part of their real estate scheme, Fisk fought alongside Daredevil, making it clear no one hurts his city or his people — not even Bullseye. That sentiment even extends to vigilantes, who, by nature, tend to bring chaos with them wherever they may go.
Fisk is adamant that Matt Murdock’s shenanigans contribute to the destruction. When he has a vulnerable moment with Wesley, Fiskadmits this isn’t fully about ego; he honestly thinks these vigilantes are poisonous. Fisk wants Elektra/Daredevil and the incarcerated Matt out of the city to help restore order and balance again.
After having his Thunderbolts team failed to kill the symbiote god Knull during the King in Black crossover and Typhoid Mary, his bodyguard and friend, get broken by the symbiote invasion, it looks like Fisk is a changed man. Even Wesley realizes this as he’s fed up with people — from heroes to vigilantes to villains — leaving Hell’s Kitchen in anguish. And as mayor, he could even aim to fix the legal system and law enforcement.
Fisk wants to rebuild the public trust again. Whether it comes through using the Thunderbolts properly, Mary helping him return to the light or a genius like Wesley leading the rebuild, the catalyst is there for a new and improved Fisk to really look after his home in a way that would even make Daredevil proud.
