Trailer Round-Up: Week of February 21, 2021


As February 2021 comes to a close, the new stage of the streaming wars continues with CBS All Access rebranding itself as Paramount+ this March. The premium streaming service unveiled a wave of trailers promoting its upcoming programming and, not to be outdone, rival digital platforms Disney+, Hulu and Netflix all teased their own respective new content.

Here are all the biggest trailers, teasers and promos from the final week of February 2021.

Army of the Dead

Filmmaker Zack Snyder’s latest project is the Netflix original movie Army of the Dead, assembling an all-star cast for a heist adventure amidst a zombie apocalypse. Opening to a devastated Las Vegas, Dave Bautista’s character leads a crack team of mercenaries to battle zombies through Sin City and pull off the ultimate snatch-and-grab job from the abandoned casinos.

Directed by Zack Snyder, Army of the Dead stars Dave Bautista, Garret Dillahunt, Ella Purnell, Omari Hardwick, Raul Castillo, Tig Notaro, Theo Rossi and Ana de la Reguera. The film will release on Netflix May 21.

Batwoman

Shortly after donning the cowl as Batwoman, Ryan Wilder has been grievously wounded by Kryptonite, with the wound only getting worse as she struggles to continue her crusade to keep Gotham City safe. As Ryan’s crimefighting career and her rekindled romance with old girlfriend Angelique is in jeopardy, the Arrowverse series continues to raise the stakes, with the villainous Safiyah playing a larger role as the show’s ultimate criminal mastermind.

Batwoman stars Javicia Leslie as Ryan Wilder, Rachel Skarsten as Alice, Meagan Tandy as Sophie Moore, Camrus Johnson as Luke Fox, Dougray Scott as Jacob Kane and Nicole Kang as Mary Hamilton-Kane. New episodes air Sundays at 8 p.m. ET/PT on The CW.

BRZRKR

One of the biggest comic book launches in years is BOOM! Studios’ upcoming collaboration with superstar Keanu Reeves in the upcoming series BRZRKR. Written by Reeves and Matt Kindt and illustrated by Ron Garney, Reeves narrates a trailer showing a mysterious operative tasked by the government to undertake dangerous missions in exchange for information about his own enigmatic past.

Written by Keanu Reeves & Matt Kindt and illustrated by Ron Garney, BRZRKR #1 goes on sale on March 3 from BOOM! Studios.

The Falcon and the Winter Soldier

While WandaVision may be coming to an end, the next stage of the Marvel Cinematic Universe continues in the upcoming Disney+ series The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. The latest promo provides more footage of the villainous Baron Zemo as he dons a comics-accurate mask while setting out to rid the world of superheroes once and for all, leading Sam Wilson and Bucky Barnes to team up once again.

Directed by Kari Skogland, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier stars Anthony Mackie, Sebastian Stan, Emily VanCamp, Wyatt Russell, Noah Mills, Carl Lumbly and Daniel Brühl. The series premieres March 19 on Disney+.

The Irregulars

One of Sherlock Holmes’ most valuable support network was the Baker Street Irregulars, a group of boys working for Holmes throughout London to gather information throughout the British capital. The upcoming Netflix original series The Irregulars reimagines the ensemble as teenagers and young adults standing as London’s best line of defense against supernatural terrors lurking in the shadows.

Created by Tom Bidwell, The Irregulars stars Thaddea Graham as Bea and Darci Shaw as her sister Jessie; Jojo Macari as Billy, McKell David as Spike, Harrison Osterfield as Leopold, Royce Pierreson as Dr. Watson and Henry Lloyd-Hughes as Sherlock Holmes. The Irregulars starts streaming on Netflix March 26.

Jupiter’s Legacy

One of the biggest original series coming to Netflix in 2021 is Jupiter’s Legacy, adapting the Image Comics series of the same name by Mark Millar and Frank Quitely. A teaser trailer confirms the series premiere date while a voiceover warns the next generation of superheroes of the coming evil. The series is the first Millarworld property to be adapted by Netflix following the publishing imprint’s acquisition by the streaming service.

Netflix’s Jupiter’s Legacy stars Josh Duhamel as The Utopian, Ben Daniels as Brain-Wave, Leslie Bibb as Lady Liberty, Elena Kampouris as Chloe Sampson, Andrew Horton as Brandon Sampson, Mike Wade as The Flare, Anna Akana as Raikou and Matt Lanter as Skyfox. The series premieres May 7 on Netflix.

Kamp Koral: SpongeBob’s Under Years

While originally planned to premiere on Nickelodeon last summer, the SpongeBob Squarepants CG-animated prequel series Kamp Koral: SpongeBob’s Under Years is coming to Paramount+ instead. The debut trailer shows a ten-year old SpongeBob going to summer camp with his lifelong friends Patrick, Sandy and more. The prequel series will debut alongside a feature-length animated film The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run.

Kamp Koral: SpongeBob’s Under Years stars Tom Kenny as SpongeBob, Bill Fagerbakke as Patrick, Rodger Bumpass as Squidward, Clancy Brown as Mr. Krabs, Carolyn Lawrence as Sandy, Mr. Lawrence as Plankton, Mary Jo Catlett as Mrs. Puff, Jill Talley as Karen, Lori Alan as Pearl, Carlos Alazraqui as Nobby and Kate Higgins as Narlene. The SpongeBob SquarePants prequel will premiere Thursday, March 4 on Paramount+.

Legacies

Things have been especially rough for Legacies protagonist Hope Mikaelson at the start of Season 3 and the high schooler is poised to snap. From being transported to an ’80s horror movie vision of her hometown to losing her boyfriend Landon, Hope is on the verge of a complete mental collapse, with a promo for the latest episode revealing her barely keeping it together.

Legacies stars Danielle Rose Russell, Jenny Boyd, Kaylee Bryant, Quincy Fouse, Aria Shahghasemi, Peyton Alex Smith, Matt Davis, Chris Lee, Ben Levin and Leo Howard. New episodes air Thursdays at 9 p.m. ET/PT on The CW.

Luca

Pixar’s latest animated film heads to the beach this summer in Luca, set in the scenic Italian Riviera. As the teenage boy Luca and his friend Alberto enjoy the sights and sounds in the picturesque Italian town, they both hide the secret that they are both actually sea monsters surfacing to enjoy what it is to being human firsthand, from gelato to aimless scooter rides.

Directed by Enrico Casarosa, Luca stars Jacob Tremblay, Jack Dylan Grazer, Emma Berman, Maya Rudolph, Marco Barricelli and Jim Gaffigan. The film arrives in theaters June 2021.

The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers

25 years after the last theatrical film, The Mighty Ducks is being receiving a revival series on Disney+ next month, bringing back original star Emilio Estevez as Coach Gordon Bombay to mentor a new generation of young hockey players. The trailer for The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers teases Bombay rediscovering his love of the game just in time to build up a new team.

The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers stars Lauren Graham, Emilio Estevez, Brady Noon, Maxwell Simkins, Swayam Bhatia, Luke Islam, Kiefer O’Reilly, Taegen Burns, Bella Higginbotham, and DJ Watts. The series premieres March 26 on Disney+.

M.O.D.O.K.

While Marvel Studios continues to expand its original programming on Disney+, the stop-motion animated series M.O.D.O.K. is poised to bring a more humorous side to the Marvel Universe. The A.I.M. supervillain discovers that he may not be as much as a devious super-genius as he believed himself to be, with the terrorist organization going bankrupt as he launches a bold attack against S.H.I.E.L.D.

Marvel’s M.O.D.O.K. stars Patton Oswalt as M.O.D.O.K., Aimee Garcia as Jodie, Ben Schwartz as Lou, Melissa Fumero as Melissa, Wendi McLendon-Covey as Monica Rappaccini, Beck Bennett as Austin Van Der Sleet, Jon Daly as Super Adaptoid and Sam Richardson as Gary. The series premieres May 21 on Hulu.

Nancy Drew

As Nancy Drew Season 2 continues to up the ante, the teenage super-sleuth accidentally awakens an ancient evil that threatens all of Horseshoe Bay. And as Nancy and her friends scramble to save their hometown from the latest supernatural menace to surface in their quiet, coastal town, the amateur detective finds herself at a personal crossroads moving forward.

Nancy Drew stars Kennedy McMann, Tunji Kasim, Maddison Jaizani, Scott Wolf, Riley Smith and Alex Saxon. New episodes debut on Wednesdays at 9 p.m. ET/PT on The CW.

Raya and the Last Dragon

One of Disney’s biggest releases of the year is Raya and the Last Dragon, taking place in the fantasy world of Kumandra, inspired by Southeast Asian culture and folklore. A new trailer for the upcoming animated movie includes the brand-new song “Lead the Way” by Jhené Aiko while showing clips of Raya and the mythical dragon Sisu set out to unite the fractured kingdoms against a powerful wave of monsters known as the Druun.

Directed by Don Hall and Carlos López Estrada from a script by Paul Briggs and John Ripa, Raya and the Last Dragon stars Kelly Marie Tran, Awkwafina, Gemma Chan, Daniel Dae Kim, Sandra Oh, Benedict Wong, Izaac Wang, Thalia Tran, Alan Tudyk, Lucille Soong, Patti Harrison and Ross Butler. The film arrives in theaters and Disney+ Premiere Access March 5.

South Parq Vaccination Special

The latest South Park special focuses on the COVID-19 vaccine rollout, as the sleepy Colorado town scrambles to be inoculated from the deadly virus. As the elderly take priority, Butters and his family are forced to wait their turn while LMFAO and Lil Jon’s “SHOTS” blasts in the background. The special follows last year’s “South Park’s Pandemic Special,” showing the town react to the pandemic spreading into town.

South Park’s “South ParQ Vaccination Special” premieres Wednesday, March 10 at 8 p.m. ET/7 p.m. CT on Comedy Central.

Star Trek

As CBS All Access rebrands itself as Paramount+, one of the big incentives for the premium streaming service is the vast library of Star Trek‘s numerous television series and films on one platform. A promo for Paramount+ highlights the new wave of Star Trek programming, including Star Trek: Discovery, Star Trek: Picard and a sneak peek at the upcoming Star Trek: Strange New Worlds.

Paramount+ launches on March 4.

Star Wars: Republic Commando

After last year’s successful remaster of Star Wars: Episode I Racer, the latest Star Wars video game to get revisited for modern audiences is Star Wars: Republic Commando. Remastering the fan-favorite 2005 game first released for the original Xbox and PC, the first-person shooter has players engage in squad-based combat at the height of the Clone Wars as they battle through Separatists threatening the Old Republic.

Developed by Aspyr, Star Wars: Republic Commando will be released April 6 on PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch.

Superman & Lois

Following the successful series premiere of Superman & Lois, a promo explores the big changes coming to Clark Kent and Lois Lane’s family in the immediate aftermath. After discovering one of his sons is developing superpowers of his own, Clark takes him to the Fortress of Solitude to meet with a holographic program of Jor-El while the mysterious new antagonist continues his rampage around the world. And as Clark is pressured by his responsibilities at home, Lois’ father General Sam Lane is concerned about the Man of Steel’s priorities in keeping the world safe.

Superman & Lois stars Tyler Hoechlin, Elizabeth Tulloch, Dylan Walsh, Alex Garfin, Jordan Elsass, Emmanuelle Chriqui, Inde Navarrette and Wolé Parks. The series premieres Tuesday, Feb. 23 at 8 p.m. ET on The CW.

Walker

If there’s one thing that’s defined Cordell Walker in The CW’s reboot of Walker, Texas Ranger it’s the lawman’s unresolved grief for his murdered wife Emily. As Walker attempts to move on with his life, a promo shows his old frenemy Hoyt Rollins resurfacing to help Texas Ranger Captain James investigate the truth behind Emily’s death.

Walker stars Jared Padalecki, Lindsey Morgan, Keegan Allen, Mitch Pileggi, Molly Hagan and Coby Bell. New episodes air Thursdays at 8 p.m. ET/PT on The CW.
