Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Last Ronin #2 just revived a classic franchise character as a possible ally to help fight the deadly new Foot clan.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Last Ronin has found a broken Michelangelo in dire straits as he launches one last crusade of revenge on Oroku Hiroto and the Foot. The last Ninja Turtle wants to free New York from its cyberpunk dystopia and avenger his late brothers and Master Splinter. The problem is, Shredder’s grandson has fortified himself in his tower, and his cyber-clan’s out there creating a techno-fascist state.
Now, these robotic ninjas, drones and mechs aren’t something that Mikey can train to take down or easily find allies to fight back against. But in The Last Ronin #2, April unearths a classic TMNT character that might be able to turn the technological tide.
This issue finds Michelangelo in the lair with April and her daughter, Casey, as they try to figure out the next move, reeling after barely escaping a tower raid. April, who’s still in shock over how everyone was murdered, believes Mikey could stand a chance as he seems to be still mutating, but he does need an extra boost. While Casey tends to Mikey, the issue ends with April pulling out from a safe the head of the Fugitoid.
In Mirage continuity, this fugitive android was the body that housed Professor Honeycutt, an alien scientist on D’Hoonib whose mind got trapped in a bot called SAL. He’d eventually cross paths with the Turtles as they went dimension-hopping, eventually helping them to fight off Krang’s forces. And in the more recent IDW Continuity, he has somewhat of a similar story. Professor Zayton Honeycutt was a Neutrino scientist who developed tools and tech that Krang’s dynasty wanted before getting trapped in SAL. He’d help the Turtles out as he wanted to stop the villain’s intergalactic conquests and connected with Donatello over their love of science, as they have in comics and cartoons alike.
In this timeline, Honeycutt has been destroyed too, but April kept his head. Now, Fugitoid could hold information once they can access his mainframe on how and where he might have left robots for this small resistance. If Mikey and April could program these, that’d help the cause a lot, as well as any other weapons left.
Fugitoid was also sought after to build the Technodrome, so there could be plans available for more vessels like it. The bot could even point Mikey to scientists to help create more weapons. Seeing as Hiroto is appropriating Baxter Stockman’s Mousers, Fugitoid may have to key to turning this former enemy into an ally.
Most of all, April and Mikey could use Fugitoid to hack into Hitoro’s tower. It’s the engine for all the machines ruling the city, and Fugitoid could theoretically plant a virus or take the central hub offline, which might disorient the Foot enough for Michelangelo to land a killing blow.
