One of the most iconic duos in the Star Wars Universe and the entire pop culture spectrum is Han Solo and his best friend, Chewbacca. The Wookiee is a beloved, selfless and caring character, who is a key part of the Rebel Alliance and reliable and faithful to other heroes like Princess Leia and Luke Skywalker as well.

Now, Star Wars Adventures #3 just revealed that Qui-Gon Jinn and Obi-Wan Kenobi actually had their own Chewbacca years before in the form of Brennon, a loving wookie soldier who was one of Qui-Gonn’s closest allies in previous missions.

The Jedi duo are on Kashyyyk before the events of The Phantom Menace for Life Day. The Wookiees are celebrating energy, nature and harmony, which Obi-Wan realizes is the Force itself. Qui-Gonn educates him on how connected the Wookiees, just like the Jedi are to this mystical entity, which leads to Brennonn greeting and hugging them tightly. Qui-Gonn reveals Brennonn saved him twice in battle before, which lends the pair a close camaraderie.

But it’s when Brennonn admits another Wookiee, Balfus, is missing that Qui-Gonn gets worried. Immediately, they sense a disturbance in the Force as suddenly, the Trandoshans attack with nets, trying to capture the furry creatures. These hunters knew that on Life Day, there’d be a lot to pick from so they chose now to raid, using ships to hoist their catch and take their prizes away.

Qui-Gonn uses his lightsaber to cut some of their guns up, but he’s overwhelmed as they’re in numbers, wielding other weapons like staffs and knives. He’s using Force-pushes as well, with Obi-Wan also trying his best to stave off the attack, all meant for sport. It’s heartbreaking seeing the Wookiees captured like this, and Qui-Gonn gets picked up too in the chaos..

He urges Obi-Wan to protect the others as he’s carted off, but it seems like Qui-Gonn did it so he could find the other kidnapped victims. If he’s going into the belly of the beast, it’s a smart but risky move to find Balfus.

However, Obi-Wan is a man of action, and he urges Brennonn to make it three times in a row to save Qui-Gonn. He’s not down to stay put and gets his first-mate here, all ready to fix a plan up as he wants his teacher back. And just like Han had Chewbacca, Obi-Wan has the loyal Brennonn at his side who’s going to do whatever it takes to save his friends too.
