In Jason Aaron and Ed McGuiness’ Heroes Reborn, Marvel appears to be introducing an even more sinister and deadly version of Venom.
Newly released teaser art for Jason Aaron and Ed McGuiness’ Heroes Reborn appears to confirm the existence of a mashup between Venom and The Punisher… or perhaps Hydra.
The images both feature Venom with a modified version of the chest symbol that resembles a skull with legs protruding out from it. In one image, it’s white, and in the other, red. However, while the skull resemblance leads one to believe this is a Venom/Punisher mashup, the second image also includes Hydra foot soldiers in the background, meaning this could just as easily be a Hydra-recruited Venom.
According to the official synopsis for Heroes Reborn, following the merging and rewriting of much of the Marvel Universe, “Blade is the one man alive who seems to remember that the entire world has somehow been… reborn. And so begins his search for the cause behind this ominous shift in reality.”
The original Heroes Reborn was a massive crossover published between 1996-1997 with titles featuring such Marvel mainstays as the Avengers, the Fantastic Four, Doctor Doom and The Hulk. Marvel famously outsourced the event to Jim Lee’s WildStorm Studios and Rob Liefeld’s Extreme Studios after the two former employees left the company to found Image Comics. During Heroes Reborn, Marvel relaunched Fantastic Four, Avengers, Iron Man and Captain America with new #1 issues, and Thor was retitled Journey Into Mystery. The story began with the Avengers, the Fantastic Four and Doctor Doom being reborn after seemingly dying while fighting Onslaught. In reality, though, they were transported to a pocket universe by Franklin Richards.

- Written by JASON AARON
- Art by ED MCGUINNESS
- Triptych Artwork by IBAN COELLO & ESPEN GRUNDETJERN
- Welcome to a world where Tony Stark never built an Iron Man armor. Where Thor is a hard-drinking atheist who despises hammers. Where Wakanda is dismissed as a myth. And where Captain America was never found in the ice, because there were no Avengers to find him. Instead this world has always been protected by Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, the Squadron Supreme of America. And now the Squadron face an attack from some of their fiercest enemies, like Dr. Juggernaut, the Black Skull, the Silver Witch and Thanos with his Infinity Rings. Blade is the one man alive who seems to remember that the entire world has somehow been… reborn. And so begins his search for the cause behind this ominous shift in reality.
Heroes Reborn #1, by Jason Aaron and Ed McGuiness, goes on sale in May from Marvel Comics.
