Dark Nights: Death Metal has pushed the DC Multiverse to the breaking point, with multiple heroes and villains throwing themselves into the conflicts despite the risk of falling in battle. And despite their relative lack of powers, the entire Bat-Family and Gotham City’s greatest villains end up fighting — and dying — side-by-side during the final battle for the multiverse.
The Bat-Family takes a brutal last stand against the Robin King in Dark Nights: Death Metal #7, with most of the heroes and villains present dying in battle before the universe is restored by Wonder Woman.
As the final battle for the fate of the DC multiverse rages around them, Batman and the rest of the Bat-Family find themselves besieged by hordes of corrupted Robins. all led by Robin King. Fighting side by side with the villains who have threatened their lives and all of Gotham over and over again, the Bat-Family does their best to keep up with the seemingly never-ending waves of brutal killers. Villains like the Joker even fight next to Batman and his family, dual-wielding crowbars and swinging them wildly at the hordes of Robins attacking him. Even the resurrected Batman Who Laughs briefly pitches in, convinced by Bruce Wayne’s threat to forget him if he didn’t stand in the final battle for the survival of everything.
However, the Robin King proves to have just too many Robins, with the endless horde of murderous and corrupted children eventually exhausting and overwhelming the last warriors from Gotham. While all of this is going on, the Robin King watches on and mocks the heroes for thinking there was any chance they’d survive the battle. Slowly, the Gotham fighters begin to suffer casualties: some are defiant ends, such as Bane going down swinging or the Joker still making jokes despite being gutted. Other fates are more heartwrenching, such as Red Hood being ripped apart by the Robins and a mortally wounded Batgirl trying to use her final words to tell her husband to fight on. As the onslaught slows, only Bruce, Dick, and Damian are left standing, just as another wave of corrupted Robins charge at them.
