Why Deadpool Was Part of Marvel’s Last Days of Magic

Although Deadpool is not normally associated with magic, he stepped up when the fallout from “Secret Wars” brought on the “Last Days of Magic.”

While most of the inhabitants of the Marvel Universe were relishing the rebirth of their world following the world-shattering events of Secret Wars, it was the “Last Days of Magic” for the wielders of magic that populated Earth. After finding a slew of dead Sorcerer Supremes, tortured and burned to death in their respective dimensions, Doctor Strange learned of the technological race known as the Empirikul, that were on a mission to cleanse all worlds of magic. As the Merc with a Mouth, Deadpool is not normally associated with the world of magic. However, following a mission from the King of the Vampires, Wade had met, fallen in love, and had wed the Succubus Shiklah. Due to her lineage and with the help of others, Shiklah took her place as the queen of Monster Metropolis with Wade by her side as her faithful husband. Located underneath New York City, Monster Metropolis was home to a variety of monsters, and was the site where Franken-Castle, a monstrous, undead version of the Punisher, had been created. Because Monster Metropolis thrived on magic, the city was targeted by the Empirikul, who sent their forces to attack.

With Shiklah’s forces overwhelmed, Deadpool sought out Michael Hawthorne, the kilt-wearing S.H.I.E.L.D. agent that had once resurrected all of America’s presidents, for assistance in the coming battle. After working together to resolve that particular case, Michael served as Deadpool’s main resource for dealing with magical threats prior to his engagement. Although the two had not spoken in a while given Wade’s sudden rise in popularity, Michael was reunited with Deadpool, being plucked from a lunch with his girlfriend’s parents and brought to Monster Metropolis to help in any way that he could. Once there, Michael began to utilize any spells that still remained within his arsenal to both battle their larger enemy and heal the inhabitants of Monster Metropolis.
