Which Future State Heroes Are on the DC Team?

In DC Future State, the next generation of DC heroes like Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman will unite to form a new kind of Justice League.

With DC Future State, DC is about to take the DC Universe back into the future in the post-Dark Nights: Death Metal landscape. This event begins in January 2021 and will take up the better part of DC’s publishing line for two months of oversized comics, monthly miniseries, and one-shots looking at new characters and familiar faces in wild new roles.

While DC Future State will affect almost all of DC’s major heroes, one of its most prominent titles will see Joshua Williamson, Robson Rocha and Daniel Henriques assemble an all new Justice League, after some of the team’s enemies show up dead in Future State: Justice League.  While the identities of some League members are still a mystery, we’re taking a closer look at everything we know about the next incarnation of DC’s greatest superhero team and their own adventures.

SUPERMAN (JONATHAN KENT)

In the absence of his father, Jonathan Kent will take on the mantle of Superman during Future State. After an international crisis drags Clark away from Earth, he’s set to travel to Warworld, and his son will take his place as Earth’s most visible superhero. While Jonathan has been saving the world for years as a young Superboy and with the Legion of Super-Heroes, this event will see Jonathan fill Clark’s shoes as a solo hero and in the Justice League. When Brainiac threatens Metropolis, Jonathan decides to bottle up Metropolis in order to keep it safe, which will put him at odds with Supergirl.

THE NEXT BATMAN

Future State Next Batman

In the future, Gotham City has been taken over by the Magistrate, a brutal, villainous regime that has Gotham and its citizens under constant surveillance. All masked heroes have been outlawed, and Bruce Wayne has seemingly been killed. However, someone has stepped up to don the Bat cowl and protect Gotham and give the people a new symbol of hope. In addition to appearing in the Justice League, this mysterious new Batman will appear in John Ridley and Nick Derington’s Future State: The Next Batman, and Ridley has said that there’s “probably a little better than a 47% chance he’s going to be a person of color.”
