Avengers #39 will act as a prelude to the Enter The Phoenix storyline, focusing on the first human host for the Phoenix Force in 1,000,000 B.C.E.
The Avengers will fight for the right to control the Phoenix Force in the Enter The Phoenix story arc, beginning with Avengers #40. However, the issue prior to that will provide an origin story for the Phoenix’s first human host.
Avengers #39 will once again travel to the age of 1,000,000 B.C.E. This time, the spotlight is on the ancient Phoenix and how she came to wield the cosmic energy. The cover features the Phoenix facing down a pair of hungry wolves, while a firebird burns bright behind her.
The Phoenix Force has long been regarded as a force that either brings life or death. It has had many hosts over the years, the most notable of them being the X-Men’s Jean Grey. Avengers writer Jason Aaron previously teased the Phoenix Force’s return to Earth in Avengers #32, where Namor was revealed to have a connection to it.
