Sony’s upcoming animated film Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse is headed to IMAX and it just may have Venom‘s success to thank for the expanded distribution.
Fresh off the box office success of this month’s Venom, the studio has signed its first multi-film distribution deal with the giant-screen exhibitor to include Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, June’s Men in Black spinoff, July’s Spider-Man: Far from Home, and December’s Jumanji sequel.

Each of the films, as part of this deal, will be digitally remastered and released in the IMAX format alongside the wide theatrical release.
Prior to the expanded distribution deal, Sony’s IMAX releases had been negotiated on a case-by-case basis with the exhibitor. After Venom earned $15.4 million on IMAX screens alone during its opening weekend at the beginning of the month, the studio looked to expand its partnership with the company.
