Mike Colter ‘Forever Grateful’ For His Time As Luke Cage

After last week’s surprise news that Marvel’s Luke Cage won’t return for a third season on Netflix, star Mike Colter has shared his thoughts about playing the titular superhero on his Instagram account.

In an Instagram post on Monday, Colter expressed his gratitude to Marvel, Netflix and the fans for being given the opportunity to portray the character across two seasons of his own series, the first season of Jessica Jones, and The Defenders. He also noted the cancellation coincided with the birth of his daughter.

“Luke Cage represented something more than just entertainment,” Colter wrote. “@MarvelsLukeCage added to social commentary and made viewers think by challenging the norm and putting out a character that reflected the everyday hero, one with flaws, strengths and everything in between.”

A separate post made this morning had Colter poke fun at the reason for the Marvel Netflix series cancellation as a result of Thanos’ climactic use of the Infinity Gauntlet in this year’s Avengers: Infinity War suggesting the Hero of Harlem may have been wiped from existence with half of all sentient life in the universe.

“#maybeitwasthano” joked Colter in his latest post.

Streaming now on Netflix, Marvel’s Luke Cage Season 2 stars Mike Colter, Simone Missick, Alfre Woodard, Theo Rossi, Mustafa Shakir, Gabrielle Dennis, Rosario Dawson, and Reg E. Cathey.
