Last month, directors Joe and Anthony Russo shared a behind-the-scenes photo urging fans to “look hard” for clues about Avengers 4. While eagle-eyed fans found four instances of the letter “A” in the photo, we were no closer to learning what the official title of the fourth Avengers film is going to be.
However, a new rumor suggests the Avengers 4 title will once again come from a Marvel comic event series: Avengers: Annihilation.

The rumor comes from MCU Cosmic, with what the site is calling “a source who is most reliable” passing on this information. While the overwhelming theory was the two A’s in the Russo Bros. photo were meant to stand for Avengers: Assemble (which was the name 2012’s The Avengers went by in the United Kingdom), MCU Cosmic instead believes it stands for Avengers: Annihilation.
Debuting in 2006, Annihilation was a crossover event series bringing together many of Marvel’s cosmic heroes and villains such as Nova, the Silver Surfer, Super-Skrull, Thanos, the Guardians of the Galaxy and Ronan the Accuser to stop Annihilus and his Annihilation Wave from consuming the universe.
Previous films in the Marvel Cinematic Universe to utilize comic book storylines for titles include Avengers: Age of Ultron, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Captain America: Civil War and Avengers: Infinity War.
