Mister Miracle Artist Mitch Gerads Reveals the ‘Real’ Issue #12 Variant Cover

DC artist Mitch Gerads has revealed the “actual” variant cover to Mister Miracle #12, the finale of the Eisner award-winning miniseries from him and writer Tom King.

Gerads previously released an unfinished version of the cover, teasing fans on the ending he and Tom King have planned for the critically-acclaimed and highly-unique title. That cover featured a costumed Scott Free struggling to avoid being enveloped in a curtain-like darkness, with the books’ now-infamous line, “Darkseid is.” The final version he tweeted now adds Scott’s son, Jacob, as he holds onto his father’s leg.

The cover gives the impression he’s making daddy-duty hard for the superhero, who has faced trial after tribulation in this book, which has dealt with the shifting power on Apokolips, as well as Scott’s overall depression. The last issue ended with fans wondering if Scott’s life, including baby Jacob, was actually real or a life before Flashpoint.

As it stands, this variant doesn’t reveal much when you place it into the context of the previous 11 issues, which is a good thing, given that everyone now expects shocking twists and turns in the finale with Darkseid’s legacy rippling through Scott’s life.

Written by Tom King and illustrated by Mitch Gerads, Mister Miracle #12 goes on sale Oct. 24 from DC Comics.
