They’re joined by Oscar Isaac’s X-wing pilot Poe Dameron, beloved Wookiee warrior Chewbacca, lovable droid BB-8, John Boyega as First Order stormtrooper turned hero of the Resistance Finn, and Tran’s Resistance maintenance worker Rose.

“She’s not cool,” Tran recently explained of her character. “She’s this nobody, this background player, which is what makes her interesting. She’s not the best. She’s not royalty. She’s someone who is just like everyone else.” Overshadowed by her sister Paige (Veronica Ngo), a Resistance gunner on par with Poe, Rose is drawn into the action when she meets Finn, who was seriously injured in Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
