It’s no secret to fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe that Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man has something to say at just about any given moment. Being quick-witted and snarky is an integral part of his personality, after all.
However, a Reddit user has compiled data suggesting that not only does Tony Stark love to talk, but that he has more spoken lines than all of his Avengers co-stars by a considerable margin.

For the data chart, the Redditor counted the lines of dialogue spoken by the six original members of the on-screen Avengers (Iron Man, Hulk, Black Widow, Thor, Hawkeye and Captain America) in the MCU’s four major ensemble films (The Avengers, Avengers: Age of Ultron, Captain America: Civil War and Avengers: Infinity War).
In the comments section, the user explained what constitutes a line, saying, “Each time a character speaks (can be a small monologue like Thanose’s [sic] speech in the beginning of the movie, or can also be a one word, like when Drax answers to Peter Quill how long he has been standing there, he says ‘an hour’). I also counted as two separate lines if one character speaks then something happens for a few moments and then he/she speaks again.”
Not only does Iron Man come away with the overall number one spot, he also has more spoken lines than the others in every single film listed. Once again, him having the most to say in The Avengers, Age of Ultron and Infinity War isn’t terribly surprising. The statistic that is a bit surprising, however, is the fact that Tony has the most lines in Captain America: Civil War, as it means that Cap came up short in his own movie.

That being said, while Tony easily runs away with the top spot on the chart, Chris Evans’ Captain America does hold a solid second place. The bronze medal goes to Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow, who is followed by Mark Ruffalo’s Hulk, Chris Hemsworth’s Thor and Jeremy Renner’s Hawkeye, in that order.
With Avengers 4 set to hit theaters in May 2019, it will be interesting to see if Iron Man’s undefeated streak remains intact.
