The Emmy Award-winning animation studio ShadowMachine and digital studio The Nuttery Entertainment have joined development on the series. The show is planned for a 12-episode season. Galaga Chronicles doesn’t yet have a distribution deal, but the series is expected to premiere sometime in late 2019 or early 2020.
Based on the classic Bandai Namco arcade game, the series was announced at last year’s Comic-Con International in San Diego. Orci will serve as an executive producer on the series.
“Galaga is one of the games I played growing up,” said Orci in an interview with Deadline. “I have fond memories of the quarters and hours upon hours I spent playing the game. I look forward to working with The Nuttery and to capture that magic in an exciting new format.”

The game is one of the benchmarks of video game history, coming close to 40 years old. The spaceship shooter has been a fixture in pop culture ever since, despite not really having a plot beyond shooting aliens.
