Luke Cage star Ron Cephas Jones has joined the cast of Sony’s Venom. According to The Hollywood Reporter, however, there is no information as to who his character will be or exactly how big his role is at this time.
This will mark Jones’ second time acting in a Marvel project. He previously played a prominent role in Netflix’s Luke Cage as the character Bobby Fish. Jones was also eyed to play the wizard known as Shazam in the upcoming DC film Shazam!, but had to back out of the role due to a scheduling conflict.

It has not been confirmed whether or not that conflict came as a result of his role in Venom, but it is very much a possibility. After all, not counting possible re-shoots, Venom reportedly wrapped filming at the end of January, which was around the same time Shazam! began production.
Either way, it will certainly be interesting to see what a proven talent like Jones is able to bring to the table in this first installment of Sony’s Universe of Marvel Characters. In addition to Luke Cage, Jones has also starred in series such as This Is Us, Mr. Robot and The Get Down.
Hitting theaters on October 5, director Ruben Fleischer’s Venom stars Tom Hardy as Eddie Brock/Venom, Michelle Williams as Anne Weying and Riz Ahmed as Carlton Drake/Riot.
