Holographic Waifu to Launch Mass-Produced Model!

Holographic virtual assistant robot Gatebox has announced that it will launch a mass-produced model starring official character Azuma Hikari!

Designed by Mino Tarou ( LovePlus, Tokimeki Memorial ), Hikari has been with Gatebox since the beginning as the “perfect wife” for its users. Gatebox first released the robot with a limited run of 300 in 2016 and an even smaller number of 39 in 2017, which attracted over 1000 applications.

As well as making improvements on technological aspects, Gatebox has worked to slim the new version to roughly A4 size. The dual mics mounted on the top mean she can be called from further away and the cameras and sensors also allow Hikari to learn the user’s face and smile when she spots them.

Hikari also has wireless LAN, Bluetooth (R), and infrared compatibility, so she easily can check the internet for the current weather or function as a remote control for your home appliances – all while keeping you company from her pod.

Gatebox’s mass-produced model is currently available for preorder for 150,000 yen (excluding tax) from its official website ahead of a Dec. 2018 release. After Mar. 2019, Azuma Hikari will also attract “expenses for living together” that will amount to 1,500 yen per month (excluding tax).

Those curious to see Hikari in action can visit the Gatebox Showroom for a demonstration session on weekends throughout August (excluding Aug. 4 and 26).
