Jason Statham Calls Hobbs and Shaw ‘Gritty and Real’

Jason Statham will soon join forces with Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson for the upcoming Fast and the Furious spinoff movie, Hobbs and Shaw. The film, helmed by director David Leitch (John Wick, Atomic Blonde), will feature the two actors reprising their respective roles of ex-DSS agent Luke Hobbs and mercenary Deckard Shaw. According to Statham, the movie will be gritty and real.

“I think Dave Leitch’s taste is a little more grounded and a little darker,” said Statham in an interview with Collider. “If you see Atomic Blonde, and it is just superb, his taste is definitely in a world that is sort of how you described it. I think he’s looking to do something that doesn’t look exactly like a Fast movie. Although it’s the Fast characters, he’s trying to do his own thing with it and give it a real sense of credibility. I think Dave is going to get this one gritty, and real and fucking hardcore.”

While the plot of the film is currently unknown, it seems as though Leitch is going for a darker, more realistic tone compared to the other films in the franchise. But, given Leitch’s past films, this may work to the movie’s advantage, and help it be seen as more than just another Fast & Furious movie.
