Altered Carbon is an adaptation of the 2002 novel of the same name by Richard K. Morgan. Set primarily in 2384, the series takes place in a future where the rich can transfer their consciousness to new bodies, effectively becoming immortal. After being imprisoned in a failed uprising against the wealthy, Kovacs is freed to solve a murder in exchange for a new chance at immortality.
As Mackie assumes the role as the latest incarnation of Takeshi Kovacs, the network teases the series will continue to explore different time periods and worlds throughout its dystopian science fiction setting though specifics for Season 2’s story are still being kept under wraps.
