The trailer debuted last week for DC Universe’s Titans, offering a first taste of the new live-action series launching this fall on the streaming service. However, some fans reportedly responded by posting racist and insensitive remarks to the Instagram account of star Anna Diop, leading her to disable comments.
Diop, who’s black, endured racist comments in April after photos of her as the alien Starfire leaked from the drama’s Toronto set. But the arrival of the teaser trailer on Friday, during Comic-Con International, apparently ignited another round of harassment. Her Instagram account remains active.
[NEWS] Anna Diop (Starfire) has disabled her instagram comments due to disgusting racist attacks since yesterday’s #Titans trailer. Racism is never okay and has no place in the DC family.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi actor Kelly Marie Tran similarly faced months of online harassment, leading her to leave Instagram in June. Her co-star John Boyega, who was targeted by racists after he was cast as the Stormtrooper Finn in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, spoke out support of Tran and other franchise actors. And, lest we forget, the casting of Idris Elba as Heimdall in Marvel’s Thor triggered backlash in 2010.
