Ten unrevealed members of idol group Keyakizaka46 will be hitting the stage as the cast for an upcoming stage play adaptation of the smartphone game Puella Magi Madoka Magica Side Story: Magia Record!
A side story to the wildly popular and gut-wrenching magical girl series Puella Magi Madoka Magica, the game introduces a new protagonist named Tamaki Iroha. Motivated by the search of her lost sister Ui, Tamaki ventures into the bustling down of Kamihama, where misfortune, magical girls, and mystery awaits.
Although it is not directly based on the original anime, this will be the franchise’s very first stage play adaptation. The play will begin performances at the Akasaka ACT Theatre in Tokyo starting late this August.
Kodama Akiko is serving as director, having directed a number of works including the 2015 stage play Live Spectacle Naruto, the 2018 stage play Ginga Tetsudo 999 Galaxy Opera, and the 2018 musical Amelie. The mind behind the screenplay will be Hatamasa Fumi, who is known for penning intriguing sci-fi fantasy stories.
