Following the news that actor Jeremy Irons has joined HBO’s Watchmen pilot, new details have emerged surrounding the Golden Globe-winner’s role.
That Hashtag Show is reporting that Irons is set to play a character known as the Blond Man. He’s said to be “highly intelligent” and “used to being obeyed and always correct.” A description that falls in line with the little information provided by Deadline following his casting, where he was simply said to be playing “aging and imperious lord of a British manor.”

Along with a description of Irons’ character, THS reports that the series was said to be looking for a pair of actors to join the series in the roles of Mrs. Crookshanks and Bernard, the head servant and butler of the British manor looked over by Irons’ Blond Man. Could these be the roles booked by Yahya Abdul-Mateen II and Sara Vickers, who were both confirmed as part of the pilot’s cast earlier today? It’s entirely possible, especially given their roles were not revealed at the time of the announcement.

Showrunner Damon Lindelof has clarified that the upcoming HBO series will not be a straight adaptation of the comic book series or a direct sequel but exist within the same world as the story. If picked up by the premium cable network, the series is expected to premiere sometime in 2019.
Irons is joined by the likes of Don Johnson (Django Unchained), Regina King (The Leftovers), Tim Blake Nelson (The Incredible Hulk), Louis Gossett Jr. (Hap and Leonard), Adelaide Clemens (Silent Hill: Revelation), and Andrew Howard (Bates Motel).
