As Fox gathers a new team for Drew Goddard’s X-Force, star Josh Brolin hopes he can be a “better” Cable next time around.
Joining the packed world of X-Men movies with this year’s Deadpool 2, Brolin beat stiff competition from the likes of Michael Shannon and Brad Pitt to land the role of Nathan Summers, aka Cable. While the actor is also known for playing Thanos in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, he is splitting his time between the two roles.

The arrival of Cable was something of a big deal for both Deadpool 2 and Fox’s X-Men franchise, but speaking with USA Today, Brolin revealed he wasn’t completely happy with his performance. “I do like the way it turned out. But I thought I could have been better,” he said.
Continuing with what happens next for Cable now that he is officially part of the X-Force, he continued, “Thank God. Man. I literally want to redeem myself to myself. I want to do a better version of what I do.”
Although Brolin admits he didn’t have an entirely positive experience filming Deadpool 2, he said that working closely with Ryan Reynold’s was a highlight of the production: “But then it clicked. I got to know (Reynolds) better. I trust him more. And we started this volley where it was like, ‘This is actually fun.’”
Reviews for Deadpool 2 were mostly positive, and Brolin’s performance was largely commended by critics. The stoic time traveler was the perfect comedic foil for Wade Wilson’s slapstick approach to being a hero. In the MCU, Brolin earned similar praise for his sometimes-sympathetic portrayal of the Mad Titan.

Although the details surrounding X-Force movie are thin, the ending of David Leitch’s movie left a team that includes Brolin’s Cable, Reynolds’ Deadpool, Zazie Beetz’s Domino, and possibly Stefan Kapičić as Colossus and Julian Dennison as Firefist. Ultimately, this lineup could change, but Leitch put the pieces in place to see the team reunite to take on another enemy.
While Brolin may be a little harsh on himself, there’s no escaping that 2018 has been a blockbuster summer for the star.
Directed by David Leitch, Deadpool 2 stars Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool, Brianna Hildebrand as Negasonic Teenage Warhead, Leslie Uggams as Blind Al, Stefan Kapičić as the voice of Colossus, and Karan Soni as Dopinder, with newcomers Zazie Beetz as Domino, Josh Brolin as Cable and Julian Dennison as Russell.
