As fans patiently wait to see which fallen characters return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe in Avengers 4, one star isn’t buying his character’s apparent demise in Avengers: Infinity War. Benicio del Toro thinks the Collector is still out there somewhere, ready to help the Avengers in the concluding part of the Russo Brother’s story.
First joining the MCU back in 2013, Del Toro played the flamboyant Taneleer Tivan in Thor: The Dark World and Guardians of the Galaxy before turning up for a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it appearance in Infinity War. But as the Guardians arrived in Knowhere to try and stop Thanos, the Collector’s appearance turned out to be a warped vision through Thanos’ use of the Reality Stone.

Prior to Thanos’ finger-snap moment, notable MCU favorites like Loki and Heimdall were killed, but fans never actually saw the Collector die. Although it was heavily implied that the Mad Titan killed Tivan before the team arrived, Del Toro isn’t quite so sure. Speaking with CinemaBlend, the star revealed, “I think he’s alive. Yeah… I think that, you know, I think he’s alive. You’re talking to him!”
The shocking climax of Infinity War left the future of the MCU’s movie slate up in the air as Thanos wiped out half the galaxy. While the Russo Brothers have revealed some of who lived and who died off-screen. Although Aunt May is apparently safe and Lady Sif is gone, there hasn’t been any mention of the Collector so far.

The comic book version of the Collector is much more fleshed out that his MCU counterpart, but let’s remember the interesting family tie to Thor: Ragnarok‘s Grandmaster. Considering Grandmaster actor Jeff Goldblum has expressed his interest in a buddy movie between the pair, there is arguably much more to offer from the Collector.
In theaters now, Avengers: Infinity War is directed by Joe and Anthony Russo and stars Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Scarlett Johansson, Paul Bettany, Anthony Mackie, Elizabeth Olsen, Tom Holland, Benedict Cumberbatch, Chadwick Boseman, Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Bradley Cooper, Vin Diesel, Tom Hiddleston and Josh Brolin.
