Jeff Goldblum Sings Jurassic Park Theme At Hollywood Walk of Fame Ceremony

Jeff Goldblum was honored Thursday with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on his namesake day. Yes, it was “Jeff Goldblum Day,” the actor discovered during the ceremony.

The 2,638th actor to join the star-studded pathway, Goldblum’s career spans more than four decades, beginning in 1974 as “Freak #1” in Death Wish, and continuing with memorable roles in such films as The Fly, The Big Chill, Jurassic Park, Independence Day and Thor: Ragnarok. He returns as the meme-generating Dr. Ian Malcolm next week in Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom.

Goldblum accepted the honor with lyrical grace and the signature humor the internet eats up. Not only did he invite everyone in attendance to continue the celebration with a martini and at a “clothing optional” pool party, mainly because he needed to get out of his dark clothing, but he also read a quote from George Bernard Shaw:

This is the true joy in life, the being used for a purpose recognized by yourself as a mighty one; the being a force of nature instead of a feverish, selfish little clod of ailments and grievances complaining that the world will not devote itself to making you happy.

I am of the opinion that my life belongs to the whole community, and as long as I live it is my privilege to do for it whatever I can.

I want to be thoroughly used up when I die, for the harder I work the more I live. I rejoice in life for its own sake. Life is no “brief candle” for me. It is a sort of splendid torch which I have got hold of for the moment, and I want to make it burn as brightly as possible before handing it on to future generations.

After the dramatic reading, Goldblum sang lyrics he penned to the Jurassic Park theme, and invited others to join him.

In addition to reprising his role as Malcom in Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, he’ll voice the character in the companion video game, Jurassic World Evolution.
