As production for Season 2 of The Gifted ramps up, the X-Men-related TV series has put out a casting call for Atlanta-based extras to play new mutants in the upcoming season, with an emphasis on, “Bald is also a plus.”
While the caveat about male extras being bald for an X-Men adaptation immediately invokes comparisons to mutant mainstay Professor Charles Xavier, the call for adult extras portraying new mutants of all ages leads to speculation that the extras will be playing imprisoned mutants, persecuted by a world that hates and fears them.

Another possibility is that the extras will portray members of the clandestine Hellfire Club, which was heavily teased in the first season of The Gifted. First created by writer Chris Claremont and artist John Byrne in 1980’s Uncanny X-Men #129, the Hellfire Club is a secret society that has covertly shaped the course of history to benefit their own nefarious agenda. While key Hellfire Club members Sebastian Shaw and Emma Frost first appeared in 2011’s X-Men: First Class, it is more likely the TV incarnation of the exclusive organization will be comprised of previously unseen characters.
New Mutants: Looking for men & women who appear 20s-60s with unique & interesting looks. MUST be comfortable with prosthetics and SPFX makeup (no skin allergies or sensitivities whatsoever). Men MUST be clean shaven or willing to shave their face. Bald is also a plus! New Faces Only- Cannot have worked as a Mutant last season.
With The Gifted scheduled to return to Fox this fall moving from its Monday time slot to Tuesdays at 8 PM ET, it will be interesting to see what new elements of the X-Men mythos make it to the series as it begins filming on May 30.
