A familiar location in the Superman mythos may be coming to Supergirl on The CW.
The network has released the official synopsis for the upcoming Supergirl episode “Dark Side of the Moon” that has the Girl of Steel discover that a part of Krypton has survived the planet’s destruction. The teased surviving part of Krypton may allude to a locale very familiar to Superman fans: Argo City.
Created in the pages of Action Comics #252 by writer Otto Binder with art by Al Plastino, Argo City is the birthplace of Supergirl and miraculously survived the destruction of Krypton through a protective dome constructed by Kara Zor-El’s father. When the dome was pierced by meteorites, Zor-El sends Kara to Earth to save her leading her to follow her cousin’s footsteps as Supergirl.
The Kryptonian metropolis has gone on to become a key part of Superman lore first being shown on screen in 1984’s Supergirl spinoff film starring Supergirl recurring cast member Helen Slater as the titular superhero before going to portray Kara and Alex Danvers’ mother, Eliza Danvers, on The CW series. The location was previously referenced directly in the first season of the DC Comics adaptation as part of a scheme by antagonists Astra and Non.
The released synopsis also teases an attack on Alex while she is enjoying a date with Ruby (guest star Emma Tremblay) while Lena Luthor must continue to keep Reign contained from the public.
SUPERGIRL LEARNS A STUNNING SECRET ABOUT KRYPTON – Supergirl (Melissa Benoist) is stunned to discover that a part of Krypton survived. Meanwhile, Alex (Chyler Leigh) is attacked while out with Ruby (guest star Emma Tremblay), and Lena (Katie McGrath) considers how far she will go to keep Reign contained.
“Dark Side of the Moon” is directed by Hanelle Culpepper from a script written by Derek Simon and Katie Rose Rogers. It is scheduled to air on May 28.
Airing Mondays at 8 p.m. on The CW, Supergirl stars Melissa Benoist as the Girl of Steel, David Harewood as Martian Manhunter, Mehcad Brooks as Jimmy Olsen, Chyler Leigh as Alex Danvers, Jeremy Jordan as Winn Schott, Chris Wood as Mon-El, Katie McGrath as Lena Luthor, and Odette Annable as Samantha Arias/Reign.
