Director David F. Sandberg today revealed that his upcoming DC Extended Universe film Shazam! has completed filming. That doesn’t necessarily mean that the film is done, though. Sandberg pointed out that the next step, post-production, will likely take many months to complete.

Shazam! began production back in January, though its history stretches all the way back to the early 2000s. New Line Cinema was slated to produce the film at that time. Shazam! went into production limbo until 2014, when Warner Bros., which had absorbed New Line Cinema in the interim, reintroduced it as part of its DCEU slate.

The Shazam! film was on rocky ground at the beginning of the year, when leaked set photos raised ire among the most vocal members of the comic book character’s fanbase. Sandberg also recently discussed why the superhero’s costume reveal had been delayed by nearly three months.
Debuting in theaters on April 5, 2019, Shazam! is directed by David F. Sandberg and stars Asher Angel as Billy Batson, Zachary Levi as Shazam, Mark Strong as Dr. Thaddeus Sivana, Ron Cephas Jones as an ancient wizard named Shazam, Grace Fulton as Mary Bromfield, Jack Dylan Grazer as Frederick “Freddy” Freeman, Ian Chen as Eugene Choi, Jovan Armand as Pedro Peña, Faithe Herman as Darla Dudley, Cooper Andrews as Victor Vázquez and Marta Milans as Rosa Vázquez.
