Fox has ordered an adaptation of Justin Cronin’s vampire novel The Passage to series for next season. Friday Night Lights‘ Elizabeth Heldens wrote the pilot, while Let Me In director Matt Reeves and Ridley Scott of Alien fame are attached to executive produce.
According to The Hollywood Reporter,, “The Passage begins as a character-driven government conspiracy thriller and morphs into a post-apocalyptic saga with vampires. The series spans over a century and focuses on a young girl named Amy, who must save the human race.”

Cronin’s book is the first in a trilogy set in an apocalyptic future which is overrun by vampires who carry a highly contagious virus. The books span 90 years’ worth of events, which means the show — if successful — has plenty of material to draw from and may be able to jump back and forth through history to tie various events together. Mark-Paul Gosselaar (Pitch) will play a leading role in the drama, which co-stars Emmanuelle Chriqui.
At the time of writing, not much else is known about the fledgling series. Starring Mark-Paul Gosselaar and Emmanuelle Chriqui, Fox’s The Passage does not yet have a release date.
