Another box office record has fallen before the might of Thanos, with Avengers: Infinity War selling more advance tickets in China than any previous film.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the Marvel Studios sequel has racked up $47.5 million in presales as of today, inching past the previous record of $47 million set in January by China’s Monster Hunt 2.

Infinity War also demolished the previous presales record in China for a Hollywood film, set last year by Universal’s The Fate of the Furious with $25 million.
Already the fastest film to reach $1 billion worldwide, Infinity War has a pretty good chance of becoming the first summer movie to earn $2 billion. Previous films to gross $2 billion globally — 1997’s Titanic, 2009’s Avatar and 2015’s Star Wars: The Force Awakens — benefited from a holiday opening. With Infinity War already breaking records in the world’s second-largest film market, that milestone goal seems well within reach.
