Disney CEO Teases More Avengers Films Down the Road

The Avengers films have made Marvel Studios and Disney a lot of money. All of them are among the highest-grossing movies of all-time and the newest installment, Avengers: Infinity War, is projected to earn approximately $1.88 billion at the global box office. Although Avengers 4 will serve as an ending to the story started in 2008’s Iron Man, it shouldn’t come as much of a surprise that Disney CEO Bob Iger isn’t willing to write the franchise off just yet.

“Given the popularity of the characters and given the popularity of the franchise, I don’t think people should conclude there will never be another Avengers movie,” Disney CEO Bob Iger told The Hollywood Reporter.

Although the contracts of many of the core Avengers are coming to an end with Avengers 4, there’s always the possibility that some might sign on for more films, or that other characters from the Marvel Cinematic Universe will join the team. Disney has already set release dates for untitled Marvel movies through until 2022, so it’s possible that a new Avengers film might be among them.

Iger also mentioned that, despite plans for a “new franchise beyond Avengers,” the studio may still make Avengers films, noting, “we just haven’t made any announcements about that.”

In theaters now, Avengers: Infinity War is directed by Joe and Anthony Russo and stars Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Jeremy Renner, Scarlett Johansson, Paul Bettany, Anthony Mackie, Paul Rudd, Elizabeth Olsen, Tom Holland, Benedict Cumberbatch, Chadwick Boseman, Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Bradley Cooper, Vin Diesel, Tom Hiddleston and Josh Brolin, among others.
