Chewbacca Meets Han Solo In New TV Spot for Star Wars Spinoff

Despite being slow to roll out, the marketing for Solo: A Star Wars Story is picking up a lot of pace with the latest TV spot now showing us the first introduction between Han Solo (Alden Ehrenreich) and the Wookiee that’d go on to become his lifelong friend, Chewbacca.

The clip shows the train heist that the team will be on, fighting off Cloud Riders and Snowtroopers along the way, while we see Tobias Beckett (Woody Harrelson) inducting Han into the gang, even giving him his trusty blaster. Amid all this, Han takes the time to get to know Chewie, first by name, to which the Wookiee lets fly his signature howl; all before the spot shows them in the heat of battle, and yes, even gambling.

These new scenes perfectly illustrate how much of a Western in space Ron Howard’s film will be, as he details Han’s origins from being an aspiring space pilot to a smuggler who becomes an enemy of the Galactic Empire. Along the way, he’ll be making allies such as Lando Calrissian (Donald Glover) who simply can’t be trusted, while running into a lot of aliens as well.

The latest trailer went deep into Han’s criminal lifestyle with Tobias warning him that if he starts, he’ll be in it “for good.” What’s interesting is that we see the pilot clearly being naive about things to come, even indicating that he’s actually got “a really good feeling about this.”

The reception to the marketing comes as great news for fans who were concerned about the film and just how much work Howard had to do to get it back on track after Phil Lord and Chris Miller were fired. With the film’s opening numbers looking positive, it seems that the director has indeed pulled off the job.

Based on a script by Lawrence and Jon Kasdan, Solo: A Star Wars Story stars Alden Ehrenreich as Han Solo, Donald Glover as Lando Calrissian, Joonas Suotamo as Chewbacca, Emilia Clarke, Thandie Newton, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Michael K. Williams and Woody Harrelson. The film arrives May 25.
