Supernatural/Scooby-Doo Crossover First Images, Details Revealed

Spook detective will meet spook detective in an upcoming episode of Supernatural dubbed “Scoobynatural.” If it’s not apparent from the name, the episode will see the two worlds of Supernatural and Scooby-Doo briefly mingled. The CW released the first images and details about the hair-raising episode earlier today. Zoinks.

The episode will start off precisely as it should, with Dean Winchester wrestling an evil, sentient dinosaur plushy. A grateful pawnshop owner offers the brothers a free TV, which they gladly accept. It goes without saying that the TV is cursed — this is Supernatural, after all. The brothers are pulled into an episode of Scooby-Doo shortly after setting up the TV.

“Once they get over their amazement at being in the cartoon, two things happen,” Co-Showrunner Robert Singer said in an interview with Entertainment Weekly. “They say, ’We’ve been in a situation like this before with the Trickster and I think we’re supposed to play this out.’ And then they realize they’re in a Scooby-Doo cartoon, which makes Dean incredibly excited because Scooby-Doo was his favorite cartoon growing up.”

According to Singer, Dean’s knowledge of the Scooby-Doo franchise will serve him well in the ensuing mystery, which is based off a 1970 Scooby-Doo, Where Are You! episode called “A Night of Fright Is No Delight.” The episode won’t be a shot-by-shot remake, though. Apparently, things get pretty dark. So, you know, brace yourselves Scooby fans.
