Doom Patrol’s Robotman Cast For DC’s Titans Series

It wasn’t too long ago that Geoff Johns revealed that the cult favorite DC team the Doom Patrol would be guest-starring in an episode of the digital exclusive Titans TV show, and since then, casting for the team has started pouring in.

Bruno Bichir and April Bowlby have already been announced as “The Chief” Niles Caulder and “Elasti-Girl” Rita Farr respectively, and today ComicBook.com is reporting that actor Jake Michaels has been cast in the role of Cliff Steele, aka Robotman.

Robotman is a founding member of the Doom Patrol who was once a star racecar driver until a terrible accident on the track left his body beyond repair and led to Niles Caulder implanting his brain into a metal robot body. The casting is consistent with the traditional Doom Patrol line-up from their earliest days in the My Greatest Adventure comic. Considering the team’s links to Beast Boy of the Teen Titans and Geoff Johns’ own history with the characters as a comics writer, it’s more likely that the team will lean towards their original interpretation as opposed to the more esoteric approach made famous in the ’90s by Grant Morrison and Richard Case.

DC’s Titans series will be debuting later this year on the upcoming digital platform dedicated to DC Comics content, along with the animated shows Young Justice: OutsidersHarley Quinn and live-action Metropolis.

Titans is executive produced by genre veterans Akiva Goldsman, Geoff Johns, Greg Berlanti and Sarah Schechter. The series will star Brenton Thwaites as Dick Grayson, Anna Diop as Starfire, Teagan Croft as Raven, Ryan Potter as Beast Boy, Alan Ritchson as Hawk, Minka Kelly as Dove and Lindsey Gort as Amy Rohrbach.
