Chandler Riggs Auditioned for Spider-Man, Solo

Years after it was speculated he was up for the role, longtime The Walking Dead star Chandler Riggs has finally confirmed he did, in fact, audition for Spider-Man — as well as another iconic character.

When Marvel Studios and Sony joined forces to bring Spider-Man into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, fans immediately began to speculate who would take on the role of everyone’s favorite web-slinger, only to have to wait a little over a year for the official casting to be announced. Prior to that, however, it seemed as though every young actor was in contention for the role. While Tom Holland, who ultimately landed the gig, was on every rumored list from early on, other actors that were said to be up for the role included Asa Butterfield and Chandler Riggs. Now, in an interview with Comicbook.com, Riggs has confirmed that he did, in fact, audition to play Peter Parker in Spider-Man: Homecoming.

“I auditioned for Spider-Man,” he shared. “I auditioned for Han Solo, all those big movies. I would love to do something like that. It would be awesome, especially now that I have a lot more free time, it would be really, really cool.”

Riggs was often rumored for the gig, and even took to Twitter prior to Holland’s casting to congratulate the actor that would land the role. While Riggs ultimately didn’t land either role, the actor remains optimistic about future projects and has stated he’d love to do something like either Spider-Man: Homecoming or Solo: A Star Wars Story, especially now that his time on The Walking Dead is nearly up. Of course, with so many superhero films and various Star Wars features in development, Riggs still has plenty of options to consider, should he choose.
