The world of Wakanda opened last night for fans eager enough to trek out to Black Panther‘s Thursday preview showings. The film, which is Marvel’s latest superhero entry, was predicted to do very well at the box office, but even those earliest showings are starting to break some of the company’s own records.
Black Panther managed to snare $25.2 million for its Thursday night preview box office, netting it the second-best preview night box office for a Marvel superhero film — first place is still held by Avengers: Age of Ultron at $27.6 million.

Black Panther now also has the distinction of enjoying the fourth best superhero movie preview night box office of all time, behind only The Dark Knight Rises ($30.6 million), Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice ($27.7 million) and the aforementioned Avengers: Age of Ultron. Captain America: Civil War was bumped out of its fourth place slot by the Ryan Coogler-helmed epic.
Now in theaters, Black Panther is directed by Ryan Coogler and stars Chadwick Boseman as T’Challa /Black Panther, Michael B. Jordan as N’Jadaka /Erik “Killmonger” Stevens, Lupita Nyong’o as Nakia, Danai Gurira as Okoye, Martin Freeman as Everett K. Ross, Daniel Kaluuya as W’Kabi, Letitia Wright as Shuri, Winston Duke as M’Baku, Angela Bassett as Ramonda, Forest Whitaker as Zuri and Andy Serkis as Ulysses Klaue.
