Rep. Lewis Announces Run Graphic Novel; Follow-up to March

U.S. Congressman John Lewis has announced an upcoming graphic novel titled Run, which will serve as a follow-up to his best-selling March series.

“In sharing my story, it is my hope that a new generation will be inspired by Run to actively participate in the democratic process and help build a more perfect union here in America,” Lewis said in a statement, as reported by TIME.

Run: Book One will tell the story of Lewis’ time as the leader of the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC). Although Lewis later resigned from the SNCC amidst internal strife, his experiences with the group were a major factor in his decision to eventually run for public office.

In 2016, March: Book Three became the first graphic novel to ever win the National Book Award. That work focuses on Lewis’ life and his role as a leader in the Civil Rights Movement. Lewis co-wrote the graphic novel with Andrew Aydin, who will return for Run. Nate Powell, who worked on March, will contribute to Run alongside Afua Richardson (World of Wakanda).

Abrams ComicArts will release Run: Book One on Aug. 14.
