Invincible creator Robert Kirkman has teased that, while scripting the recently released final issue of the long-running Image Comics series, he actually came up with a lot of ideas for stories. However, they’re destined never to make it to print.
“Writing the last issue of Invincible, I came up with, like, at least 50 more issues worth of stories,” Kirkman told Mashable.

However, the writer quickly dismissed any notion that Invincible would return — in comic book form, at least. “The book is done,” Kirkman stated, firmly. “In the last issue, I made a point to set up a bunch of different storylines that could eventually play out at some point. But the idea there is just to give the readers a sense that this is a world that continues existing, even though you’re not going to see it.”

Created by Robert Kirkman and Cory Walker, the first issue of Invincible hit shelves in January 2003. The series centered on the titular teenage superhero, civilian name Mark Grayson, who inherited superpowers from his alien father Omni-Man, a member of the Viltrumite race. Invincible gained a loyal fan following and critical praise over the years for continually honoring superhero tropes while simultaneously subverting them, featuring a large cast of characters and sparking multiple spinoff miniseries.
The series recently wrapped up with Invincible #144, by Kirkman and artist Ryan Ottley, which released on February 14. Currently, a film adaptation written, directed and produced by Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg is in the works for Universal Pictures.
