Reg E. Cathey Plays Luke Cage’s Dad In Season 2


A day after it was announced that legendary actor Reg E. Cathey had passed away following his battle with lung cancer, Marvel Television paid their respects while also announcing the late actor’s work on Luke Cage Season 2.

Following the news of Cathey’s shocking passing, Marvel Television released a statement calling it “an honor” to both work with him and know him. “Everyone at Marvel Television is deeply saddened by the loss of Reg E. Cathey,” the company stated. “It was an honor to work with him and to know him. Our heartfelt condolences go out to his family and friends.”

It was alongside their statement that they revealed Cathey had worked on the second season of Luke Cage, in which he plays the role of James Lucas, Luke’s father. Prior to the news that Cathey had worked on the Netflix drama, Luke Cage actor Mike Colter took to Twitter to pay his respects to Cathey, calling it an honor to spend time with him on set.

Along with Colter, actress Gabrielle Dennis, who joined the series last year as Tilda Johnson, expressed her condolences on Instagram, sharing a photo of the two of them presumingly on set.

Cathey, best known for his work on shows such as The Wire and House of Cards, also appeared in Fox’s latest attempt at a Fantastic Four reboot where he played Dr. Franklin Storm. His most recent work includes 2018 film Tyrel, which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival, prior to that, he’d also worked on the HBO television film The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks, an adaption of the novel of the same name.
