Tessa Thompson is ‘Highly Interested’ in Playing the New Kick-Ass

Mark Millar announced last year that the character who had for years held the mantle of Kick-Ass in the Kick-Ass comic series, Dave Lizewski, would be retiring so that a new character — a black, female military veteran — could take over the role. The comic series has thus far seen two film adaptations, and last month Millar commented on Twitter that, if a third movie ever gets made starring his new Kick-Ass, his ideal casting for the character would be Tessa Thompson (Thor: Ragnarok, Creed).

Nearly a month went by without a peep from Thompson, but all that changed today when she posted a tweet directly responding to Millar’s claim that she would make a perfect Kick-Ass. Her take on the matter? Apparently, Thompson is “highly interested” in the prospect of becoming the new Kick-Ass.

Millar’s new Kick-Ass, Patience Lee, has yet to debut in comic form, but apparently Thompson will be eagerly awaiting her premiere later this month. Millar commented on his reason for stepping away from the Dave Lizewski story last year, saying:

“I wanted to shake up the setting a little and shifted the whole thing to New Mexico,” Millar said. “The lead is a woman this time, a mother in her early 30s with two young kids. She’s also a military vet who came home to find her life in a completely different setting from the way it was when she went to Afghanistan so the actual dynamic of the book is really different, but at the same time the flavor is identical.”

Kick-Ass #1 from Image Comics will be available for purchase at comic book stores on Feb. 14.
